Android phones are the most common spare microphone in the world. With a free app and a desktop client, the phone becomes a proper virtual microphone that any Windows application can use.
Get WO Mic from the Play Store and the Windows client from the official site. Grant microphone permission to the app on first launch – Android 12+ also asks for nearby-device permission for discovery.
Put the phone and PC on the same network. In the app choose Wi-Fi and tap Start; the app displays its IP. In the client press Connect. If discovery fails, type the IP address manually – this also fixes most router-specific issues.
Enable Developer Options and USB debugging, connect the cable and accept the RSA prompt. Select USB in the app. This is the most stable mode and keeps the battery topped up during long meetings.
Set the app's battery usage to Unrestricted, otherwise Android suspends it when the screen turns off. Disable 'Wi-Fi power saving' on Samsung devices, which throttles background network traffic. On Xiaomi and Huawei phones, lock the app in the recent-apps screen to prevent it from being killed.
Select 'WO Mic Virtual Microphone' in the app you are using. In Windows Sound settings, set it as the default recording device and disable audio enhancements to avoid duplicate processing.
Yes. Root is not required for any connection mode.
